First of all the metal thing you mentioned is WRONG.The best thing to
do especially if you have a 240 603p is to get the Phase5 "heatsink"
off the board-it doesn't do NOTHING.A heatsink without wings can't
get the heat of itself and it ends up useless.Just rip the phase 5
heatink get a celeron one(the small square model with the narrow base)
put some thermoconductive creme on the ppc chip and tie the heatsink
down on the board using strings from your old shoes. Now your ppc chip
will be just warm...
Secondly for the BVision cooling: Get a small 486/50 heatsink and cut
it down using a hacksaw so it's slightly bigger than the PM2
chip. These heatsinks are made of aluminium so cutting it is very easy.
Then put some thermoconductive creme on the permedia chip and place
the heatsink on it.Now go and buy some plastic tighters(you know these
things with the hole to get their edge through in order to tight it).
Use 2 of them to tight the heatsink on the BVision board.Just check
if it touches any pins of the SDRAM chips on the right of the PM2.
if not you are ready for action. You can install a fan too either big
or small( I prefer big) to blow on the heatsink to get the heat off
it.The whole operation is very easy and it will cool down the PM2
enough.Just be sure you add the thermoconductive creme or you
will have a cool heatsink and a hot chip;)
Happy Cooling
