Most people don't want to go through that hassle. I happen to have
both systems installed, but what if I hadn't? Why should I invest
a whole day to install Linux (and yes, for a Linux newcomer it *will*
take this long at least) and get used to its setup just to install the
SDK and get used to a third OS. A professional cannot invest this much
time, and please don't tell me that you don't want professionals to
get involved...
I am really amazed at how people are mad about the Windows SDK
version. A windows version will make it possible for Windows
programmers to have a go at it and say "hey that's nice", and perhaps
invest more time in it. If the initial barrier is too big
(i.e. install a new OS first), they might not want to try at
all. That's why BeOS PE can be installed into a Windows file.
Furthermore, it requires a program like Partition Magic or similar to
resize the partitions on your disk to make room for a Linux/Windows
double boot. Then you will have to make a backup first, since you
don't want to trust your valuable data to a program that performs
potentially dangerous things. All this will make the Linux SDK
completely "not-worth-the-effort" for a Windows only
developer. Therefore a Windows version of the SDK makes perfect sense
IMO, and the only arguments I've heard so far is purely religious.
