Sounds good, but there's no Version: header.
It's probably a good idea, as strongly suggested by Aminet's guidelines,
to remove the version number from the filename. This way, an URL will
always link to the most current release and there will be no more broken
links. E.g., an URL "ftp://ftp.amiga.com/pub/lang/c/vpcc-2.8.1.tar.gz"
that is valid now could no longer be valid in a few months when the
archives gets replaced with a more recent version. So it's safer to use
just vpcc.tar.gz.
Some more improvements to make life easier:
a) in case it's desirable to keep an older version of an archive (witness
ToolManager 2.1 and 3.0, which were quite different from each other and
split the Amiga community), this could be kept in a proper subdirectory,
such as old or .old. For example ToolManager 3.0 would be available as
util/wb/ToolManager.lha, while v2.1 as util/wb/old/ToolManager-2.1.lha.
b) as an alternative to the standard Aminet header "Replaces:", a new one
could be introduced. "Replaces:" tells the managing script to discard the
old version, while the new header (I can't think of any names at the
moment) would tell the script to simply move the old archive to the "old"
subdirectory.
c) a web-based interface (or an ADT-like client) should also display the
version number automatically.
How does that sound?
