Uploads containing readmes that do not conform to a predetermined set of
headers simply will not be made available for download. If this is what we
must do to raise the bar to a standard of quality and software awareness and
availability, it is worth doing for the sake of the end user. It may be more
work for the developers but consider how much more efficient it is for the
end user and how it will cut down on emails and unnecessary downloads of old
software versions.
Comments please? After all, my aim is to do what the majority here
want/need as far as support goes. We're here to make things easier for you
guys who are taking the rollercoaster ride with us. :)
Also, I have always planned that the web interface will have an HTTP upload
facility (assuming one is using a browser that supports this feature) where
the author can have the .readme created on the fly, by filling the proper
information into a form. Of course, regular FTP uploaders won't benefit
from this but I want to make it easy for surfers to upload to the site as
well.
As soon as I am done integrating the stand-alone developer search code into
the site (it is about 75% complete), I'll be starting on the above-noted
improvements to the 3rd party snapshots/contributions pages.. more news on
this as it is completed.
