Though if it's a 40Mbyte archive, or a series of archives that take
40Mbytes, it's going to be quite painful for the submitter, especially
for those who pay by the minute - we know that according to Murphy's law
their transfer rate will be half of the theoretical maximum, or even less
than that. ;) On top of that, it would be an unneeded waste of bandwidth,
on both sides.
It wouldn't really be an assumption where the old revision should go; I'd
rather call it a "consistent procedure". By having a standard place for
things to go, we give the final user as few surprises as possible,
letting him find things where he expects them to be - even using a "dumb"
client like bare FTP. When designing an interface/service it's good
practice to avoid making it a moving target, otherwise usability and the
user's trust/familiarity with the interface/service get limited.
But I digress, of course.
