Subject: | AMIOPEN: UAE = Legacy Problems Solved |
Hi,.
I have just got uae working (0.8.14), with my old amiga setup, and i dont mean
it booted from floppy i mean it booted my complete amiga disk. Ok the gfx are a
bit slow, but its running at about the same speed as a 28mhz 020.
However i was quite amazed that uae worked with all the hacks i have installed,
namely MCP and COP (real low level debugger), most of the applications work as
expected. The 68k and chip set emulation must be almost complete (i know aga is
not), but the proof is that my emulated amiga setup is just a slower version of
my old amiga system.
I now feel strongly that uae should be included as a legacy component 'from the
start', of new amigaos distributions. It solves in a stroke any worries about
compatibility or legacy applications and is much cleaner than the way Apple
(OSX) and Micro$oft (NT), attempted it through the means of special operating
modes for the core os, and compatibility libs and environments. Ok so you cant
run applications directly from the new os, but its much cleaner and will force
people to migrate much quicker.
If it were geographically possible i would give the uae team (and it is a team)
a pat on the back,..
regards,
---
