QNX Announces Performance Gains for Pentium III Processor
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

News at a Glance
QNX Neutrino RTOS delivers significantly faster context switching and IPC
for Pentium III processors.
Key component of upcoming QNX Realtime platform.
Available now in beta.

OTTAWA, August 21, 2000 - Working in cooperation with Intel Corporation, QNX
Software Systems today announced they have optimized their QNX Neutrino
realtime operating system (RTOS) for the Intel Pentium III processor
family.
Optimizations will result in significant performance improvements for
developers wishing to run QNX-based solutions on Pentium III platforms.
Initial testing reveals dramatic improvements in overall performance,
including speed increases of up to 33 percent for both context switching and
interprocess communication (IPC).

"Fast context switching allows applications to process events with minimum
latency, making it a key indicator of the performance of any RTOS," said
David Nickerson, application engineer, strategic alliances at QNX Software
Systems.

The QNX Neutrino RTOS will be a central component of the upcoming QNX
realtime platform, to be released in September. In addition to true realtime
performance, QNX Neutrino's unique microkernel architecture and modular
design offer memory management unit (MMU) protection for high reliability in
mission-critical applications. POSIX compatibility provides an
industry-standard API for those wishing to develop or port software.

Since the release of the original QNX operating system in 1981, QNX Software
has been the leading vendor of realtime OS technology for Intel
Architecture-based platforms. "Our long-standing working relationship with
Intel and expertise with the Intel Architecture have definitely helped us
push the performance envelope on the Pentium III processor," said Linda
Campbell, vice president of strategic alliances at QNX.

"QNX has a long history of support for Intel architecture," said Joe Jensen,
general manager, embedded Intel architecture division. "By adding support
for the Pentium III processor family, QNX is providing embedded developers
with a competitive solution for their applied computing applications."

Availability
The QNX Neutrino kernel optimized for Pentium III processors is now
available in beta and will be available in September as part of the QNX
realtime platform.
