Nonetheless, that makes me feel much better. I shouldn't have assumed
that python 1.6 would be about the same size as python 1.5. After all
that goes against all principles of software production. :^)
The sizes really are quite close! It is probably expecting too much to
hope that the binary for a monolithic application would be so much
smaller that the reduced load time would make up for the translation
time. In practice, when the application has been properly designed to
use tools that are only loaded when needed, I bet it really will work
that way.
