"xterm" is IMHO the most usable terminal program on X. All others have
better GUIs but they lack in the area of "terminal emulation", ie. they
look better but when you start your first text based app, they show a
lot of bugs.
As for Cut&Paste, you select text (copy) with the left mouse button and
insert it somewhere with the middle button (press left&right
at the same time if you have only two buttons). This works everywhere
in X except when you copy text from the HTML area in Netscape
where you have to use Alt-C to copy it).
And to scroll an XTerm, use the middle mouse button on the "scroll bar".
When you use the left and right button, then the "knob" of the
"scroll bar" will jump by a percentage of the page (the vertical
position is the percentage and left means "scroll down" and right
means "scroll up").
And there are three menus which you get with Ctrl plus a mouse button.
