Replying to my own message, I'm afraid. However we finally got this thing
working OK. Many thanks to all who offered help. Not quite sure what did
it. It may have been the latest version of Betascan, or it may have been as
simple as a missing "." in the I/O device path. It's impossible to look
over someones shoulder when you are on the telephone.
