Way to exaggerate! Basically you pay less income tax so VAT makes up for
it in the economy. In Europe, and in the US, they pay huge amounts of income
tax but very little in the way of VAT. I think there was an example of Norway
having EXTREMELY low VAT, so much so that food and clothes ares incredibly
cheap, but you'd be hard pressed to find anyone with a high take-home wage
with which to exploit the cheap goods.
