That's because people buy things by mistake. They go blindly to the
usual place and pick up a magazine that costs twice as much as the usual
one. Then, feeling vaguely confused, they wander around at random until
they see what looks like the right one, so they end up buying two.
It's the same as if you move a bird's nest a couple of feet. The bird
will desperately hunt around for its eggs in the old place even when the
nest is in full view.
