You can make a _serial_ lead with only 3 wires, connecting pins 2, 3 and
7 to pins 3, 2 and 7 (on 25-pin connectors). Any old wire will do,
lighting flex for example.
Then you use X-on X-off handshaking.
Look for programs such as Sernet. It is very very slow but it will work.
Ethernet would be at least 100x faster.
