I'm inclined to believe that's the fault of Windows trying to
over-simplify things for the user, and implementing non-standard GUI
"features" such as 'My Computer' and the Start Bar.
I learned to use computers on BBC Micros, and learned to use WIMP
systems on Macs, and possibly because of this I found it fairly
intuitive to use Workbench, Windows, and Unix systems when I first
tried them.
On the other hand, a lot of people who learnt about computers through
Windows 95 have trouble understanding file system structures and other
basic computer concepts.
Perhaps this is a symptom of computers being brought to the masses in
recent years, so that more and more computer illiterate people are
using Windows systems. Or perhaps it's a more basic problem that has
been brought about by Windows.
