Subject:Re: Oh No not linux

Someone once commented to me that in someways being interested in an
Amiga was holding me back in computing. At Uni, I was sat listening
to a couple of lecturers complaining how all of the machines in the
computing department were Wintel machines. We do have some SG's and
the MAC's have been put in a cupboard but the whole set of courses
are based around these Wintel machines. I bought my first ever PC
magazine a few months back to get a copy of Borland C++ which I
needed for my course and the magazine came with a second CD with
Mandrake on it. This PC magazine was mainly based all around Windows
but did have a linux section and would have one every month that
point forth.

If the Amiga is holding me/us back (and I'm not saying it is) surely
it would be worthwhile for a Linux section. This arises the question:

Is the Amiga still an Amiga if it isn't running AmigaOS? (I'd prefer
not to restart that debate)

The world is so based around Wintel systems, that it is holding
computing back. The general view of a computer is a box, with a
monitor near it which displays a Start button in the corner.

It is all well and good people on this list trying to help people
out, but as already been in a thread before, people prefer to see
print and screenshots are also useful. I bought a 'Dummies' Book for
KDE, and so far it is patronising me. I've never felt patronised by
an Amiga magazine tutorial.

An AmigaActive tutorial on Linux would be good, (or how about a PDF
version on the CD which we could all print out) and it will open us
all to a whole host of new software.

With my machines, I have access to DOpus Magellan II, Workbench 3.0,
MacOS, Windows 98, DOS, Linux and BeOs and therefore a huge variety
of software.
