Neil,
Not sure how much help this is going to be, and you've probably tried
most of this already. I recently added a load of hardware to my
towered 1200 (I know you use a 4000 but the symptoms are the same). I
added a ZIV board, and this started happening. It seemed to be
shorting against the keyboard connector, and the base connector, now
this isn't going to be the case in a 4000, but could you have a short
somewhere???.
I then added an ariadne II and a Cybervision 64/3d after much arsing
about and several reinstalls of CGX and P96, I got it working, it
then promptly killed my machine and a complete OS reinstall was in
order, this is not relevant, but at this point I removed cards to get
things working again. When I plugged back in, the rebooting started
again. After checking the places where it was shorting and finding
that they seemed OK (the high tech insulation was still in place ;-
) ), I unplugged the B1260,scsi,c64/3d,ariadne and all worked again,
when I plugged back in again it started rebooting, to cut a long
story short I ended up moving the c64/3d up a slot and all was OK. So
have you tried moving the cards to different slots??
Probably no help at all, but worth a shot.
