Subject: | Re: (more) hard drive keeps resetting Amiga at startup!??!?! |
Hello Jonathan,
Thanks for your reply....
Some updates to the situation: I have removed the Seagate from the Amiga
and put it into a PC and "fdisk"ed it (versioin that was on the PC only
allowed me to partition it to 8GB and I've been told I need a newer version
of fdisk), formatted it and then put it back into the Amiga - to no avail!
It still does the same.
I even went into hdtoolbox and changed the bootpri of my DH0: to 127 to try
and get it to boot up!
So this is exactly what happens: (I disconnected the CD drives to make it
easier for me to figure out)
1. power light comes on and hard drives spin up (seagate takes quite a while
as it's 7200rpm or something big like that). and screen flashes a couple of
shades of grey
2. seagate heads move around abit (not alot though)
3. DH0: light flicks on for a split second (like usual, before it normally
checks CD drives)
4. seagate light flicks on for a little bit and then there is a pause...
5. screen flashes a couple of different shades of grey and the hole process
repeats indefinitely (until I kill the power).
Now, I have also found that I can boot the Amiga with either the power or
SCSI cable unplugged from the seagate. If I have the SCSI cable unplugged
and get WB loaded, and I wait for the heads on the seagate to stop (a couple
of clicks about a second apart every 30 seconds or so) and then quickly plug
in the SCSI cable after the heads stop clicking the second time, it doesn;t
crash, but I still can't access the seagate (how do I mount it manually,
especially if the RDB is stuffed?!). As soon as the heads do their clicking
business again, the system freezes up. If I push reset, I get a guru
8000-000A. I tried it the other way (leave SCSI cable connected and apply
power after WB is loaded but I can't remember what happened (probably the
same as the heads run around a bit on the seagate and it freezes).
All I can say is that I am glad I didn't have your problem of it being my
only hard drive! :) Not that I'm any better off at the moment!
Regards,
Richard.
