I suppose pointing out the idiocy of this policy wouldn't be good for your
career prospects?

Anyway, WoW (aminet/util/conv/WoW.lha) works well for me, for converting
from Word to ASCII. (If we smile sweetly, Neil will probably tell us
which AACDs its been on too ;-)

BTW, have you ever seen a hex dump of a word file? It's *unbelievable*
just how much sheer crap gets included - quite apart from the infamous
unique ID numbers identifying the machine that created the document. It's
even possible for snippets of previous documents to be included 8^0

To see it for yourself, open a shell and type:

type file.doc opt h

and watch as hundreds of lines of garbage fly past, with a tiny piece of
plain ASCII text in the middle somewhere!
