Subject:A1200 Eyetech Ethernet probs

Hi group!

Anybody in here using Eyetech's A1200 ethernet solution?
I've got a CNet PowerNIC PCMCIA card and am trying to network
my A1200 to my PC using the "Eyetech Ethernet Software" CD.

To say that the setup procedure has been "problematic" would be
rather understating matters. So much for the "5-click solution".

I'm using Genesis 1.0.6 from NetConnect 3 as my TCP stack and
trying to network the machines using the Samba configuration
utils provided.

Here's a few problems for ya:

1. Installation of software appears to work OK including the
creation of the CNet interface in Genesis. However attempting
to start this interface, by using the "StartEthernet" script
results in Genesis reporting "could not open DEVS:Networks/cnet.device
unit 0". Sometimes this is a critical error and Genesis will not
procede - but sometimes this is just flagged as an "err" level
error and Genesis at least reports that the cnet interface is
online. Seems random. :-/

2. With the cnet interface on-line, I try to launch Samba ( after running
the ConfigSamba util and selecting the drives I have shared on the PC )
and after a minute or so Samba comes back to me saying that "Host
COMPUTER2 cannot be contacted!" for each of the shares I have selected.
So it's pretty clear something is very wrong.

I've configured the both the Amiga and PC as per the instructions, and I
know
the PC NIC works as I've used it on other networks. Even though Genesis can
report
the cnet interface as being on-line, the Amiga (Computer1) never appears in
the
Network Neighborhood. I guess Samba has to be working for this to happen.
But
working it ain't.

Two other points:

1. If Samba was actually working OK, where abouts on the Amiga side do the
shared
PC devices actually appear? Do they appear as A: C: D: E: along with the
Amiga
devices DH0: DH1: etc????

2. Genesis now starts up iconified ( gee thanks Eyetech ) how the hell do I
stop
it from doing that???? I have interfaces for dial-up internet access that
I
want available to me when I start Genesis, I don't want to have to keep
clicking bloody icons to get to where I want to be...... < rant mode off
>

Thanks for any help anybody, I know networking problems are very hard to
solve
when you're not actually there to check this and double check that so I'm
not expecting the Earth. Networking is not part of Computer Science, it's a
black
art more akin to Voodoo magic.
