I didn't realise that, I thought it was just a case of routing :(

I quite agree. I've been with freeserve from the first time I saw a
post on FidoNet of how to access them, and they have continually
improved (as far as I personally am concerned). BT on the other hand
has been a PITA in all the 27 years I've been with them!
