Subject: | FFS/SFS/PFS validation |
Hi
In the case that anyone should run into problems with FFS/PFS/SFS
anyway...
It happened to me using the PowerFlyer 4000 interface and the fast boot
IDE patch from FAQ (2 resistance wires) with PFS!
To recover (using a stable setup) a system that is not able to validate
even after using diskdoctor, you might try quickformat your partion (using
options "noicons quick") and unformat your drive after that with
pfsdoctor... This actually worked for me after PFS3 wasn't able to recover
a fault that was caused by the PowerFlyer interface.
I've had past expereince with this method in FFS and know it works well
there too. I suspect that SFS might recover in a similar way if you do get
problems (most possible due to bad hardware).
Of course it does require a tool that can unformat your drive! (pfsdoctor
for PFS, disksalv for FFS).
In other words ... having a NDOS PFS partion is no fun, but there is ways
to salvage it!
Whenever you run into things like this.. It's time to make a (another)
backup and restore your data after a reformat. Newer PFS3 use another disk
layout than older PFS3 partions, so you might even benefit in other ways
from that!
Kind regards

It is better to have tried and failed than to have failed to try, but
the result's the same.
