There is no metaphor, because the user interface can be anything
someone wants to write. I can guarantee that people will write up
clones for the current versions of the desktop (Workbench, Windows,
Mac, NeXT, that type of thing), but I can also equally guarantee that
people will write up completely new interfaces (a set of 3D rooms that
you walk through, audio-only with speech for input, etc) that aren't
really feasible in current environments. They applications don't have
to care.

Mainly because Tao created VP and owns all related intellectual
property. If Tao ever goes under, that property would be sold to
attempt to pay Tao's creditors.
