You know, it would be great to have a standard file-format for all
Amiga conf-files, settings files, and so on. This could be a kind of
UNIX-style ASCII flat-file (like the Apache conffiles, maybe, in the
extreme), or maybe a kind of structured ASCII like XML, or going a
binary route, maybe something like IFF (which would have to come along
with a really good bunch of editing tools), or maybe a real database
for everything, like Windows Registry. (I've restrained myself from
going "YUCK" after several of these !)
The thing is that I suspect that someone at Amiga has already thought
about this, and we should wait to see if they've come up with a
standard Amiga-blessed solution for this kind of thing. Until then,
though, flat-ASCII will do fine.
Gary, or others at Amiga, can you tell us if there will be an
Amiga-blessed solution for this kind of thing ? And if so, can you
give us any rough details ?
If not, no worries.
Jim
P.S. If XML's the route, then we don't have to go hauling in great
wads of Java - it shouldn't be too difficult to write a light and fast
XML-loader for Ami, for things that fit in memory, at least.
