Just a side point here, but didn't Fleecy say that the new AmigaOS/DE/OE(?)
wouldn't have any files?
Instead there is a system of services. Now I'm not sure how exactly you have
a system without files, but I'm sure we'll find out.

What I'm thinking is that AmiPak might become a service, i.e. a file-thingly
comes along and it asks for something to decode it, there are several file
processors around and AmiPak (which also handles .zip files I believe) is
picked, it decodes and so on.

if it becomes a service provider then you could see it incorporated into
formats, i.e. the SWF (flash) format uses zip and mp3 among others to make
relatively compact files, some on Adobe's site look good but take 5 minutes
to download (I'd love to shave 30% of them ;) ).

First of all i'd like to thank everyone whos mailed us about AmiPak, not a
single message has been negative. Oh and BTW, I will get back to everyone
who has contacted me as soon as I can. Anyway, The idea of AmiPak was to
finally have a good archiver for the Amiga, and right from the start. LhA
was okay, LZX a bit better, but not enuff.

Pat and myself are working to make the format as good as possible, which
means good compression, the features people want and most of all, easy to
use. Its important to say that we cant explain much more at the moment
until we get a few things frozen. We will tell everyone as much about the
project as we can soon enuff tho. Infact with luck, very soon.

If anyone has a suggestion, please tell us, we may not be able to put it in
depending on how the system works, but the more suggestions the better :)

We hope everyone will be pleased with AmiPak, and if they are not, they can
tell
us how to make it better.

Thanks :)
