Sounds like you loaded the mouse serial driver vs. the mouse PS.2 driver.

Hallo Folks @amiga.com
When will the Windoze version of the SDK be available?
After the harddrive in my Linux box went kapot a weekend or 2 ago I have
been trying to get the SDK installed again. More exactly, I have RedHat
6.2 installed now on a new harddisk but since the install I cant get the SDK
to install.
The problem? I can't get Xwindows to startup, becos Linux tells me there is
no mouse (it is there, a 3-button generic one, but in the PS/2 port)
available. On the same machine, I also run Windoze98 SE and the PS/2 mouse
works perfect. I also had to reinstall Windoze98 again from the start on
the very same machine.
What I have done... I installed Redhat6.2 with just about the default
options, and selected 'generic 3-button PS/2 mouse' as the mouse. In
mouseconfig, if I select a serial port mouse, Xwindoze does starts up. But
that is not much use for me. GPM is started when Linux boots and it points
to ttyS1. In /dev/ there is a file called /dev/psauc which is supposed to
be my mouse. In windoze98, the mouse is reported to be on IRQ12 (if I
remember correct). I also read the Linux mouse HOWTO's and I still can't
get the mouse to work, maybe I skipped something somewhere?
Most of my other hardware does work in Linux: 3com and Realtek ethernet
cards, AIT Rage II display card, Symbios Logic SCSI card etc. Its just the
ps/2 mouse which is giving troubles!!!
I know this is neither a Linux nor a Windoze discussion group/support list,
I ask if some knowledgeable person can assist me getting my SDK operational.
I feel I am wasting my time by stuffing around in Linux, with 1000s of
config files etc when I am no hacker-type, and not into configs and sysadmin
jobs.
When I yesterday evening booted my ol' devbox in Windoze98 the PS/2 mouse
worked. It even works even when I boot the machine in MSDOS mode, and then
using some "mouse.com" program to enable the ps/2 mouse.
Can someone please assit me witht the Linux ps/2 mouse problem?
The alternative is to ask the guys @amiga to please eMail me a windoze
version of the SDK. You have my details.
met vriendelijke groet,
Michiel Erasmus
