Some people here do seem to be under the impression that in order to use
Linux they first have to read 5000 pages of documentation, learn to speak
Ancient Swahili, and live with a lost Amazonian tribe for 6 months.
Well, I have yet to read a book on Linux, am incapable of conversing with
an ancient Swahilian, and have been stuck in this office for so long that
the Amazon is a purely abstract concept to me.
Yet I develop using the SDK under Linux. In fact, before I got me SDK setup
I had never even touched Linux.
Installing Linux was trivial: my excellent Amiga dealer pre-installed it.
If this option isn't open to you, there is most likely a Linux user group
nearby, or a local Linux fanatic (and you can show off the SDK in return :-).
Using it? Type in user name, type in password, and SPLAT we're in a bog
standard GUI system. I think we're all familiar with those.
Still have problems? Ask on the Team Amiga mailing list. Ask on the
#developer amiganet IRC channel. It's what we're here for.
What I'm trying to say is that using the SDK under Linux is not as difficult
as some seem to imply. You don't need to know Linux inside out. You don't
need to know how to configure sendmail or customize the kernel. If you
are holding back on getting the SDK just because you don't know Linux, please
consider again. It's all in your mind.
