Concerning Voyager PPC there is a different issue. What do you expect from a
PPC Browser ? Well, probably faster image-loading, faster decoding of the
pages... all this is *very* 68k-heavy. Now we have this 68k Emulation. Right.
So the Contextswitch-Delay does not apply anymore ? Wrong. Just the penalty is
much smaller (around 5x smaller). This can be enough for making "slight"
contextswitch not so bad. But HEAVY contextswitching still will have HEAVY
effect. And to speed up things like Image-Loading of a browser either the way
this is currently done has to get COMPLETELY changed, or there won't be that
much of a difference (of course how much of a difference always depends on the
work put into it, right...).
The thing about VoyagerPPC is I think that Oliver from Vapor is a really nice
guy, and if you ask him "do you give me a chance to do a special version for
my system" - be it WarpOS, be it MorphOS - he says "Yes". Actually the changes
which would be needed to do a really decent MorphOS-version of Voyager could
also be used to make a really decent WarpOS-version (or a version for the H&P
68k-
Emulation). The things which needed to be changed (especially in the work the
internal image-decoder works...) are always the same... but at least the last
time I had a look at the image-decoders (Oliver gave me the source) this
looked like MUCH MUCH work to me. And I had a bit my doubts if currently (if
not Oliver himselves changes the protocol in certain ways) a PPC optimization
is really worth it, 68k Emulation or no 68k Emulation. (Don't blame Oliver for
it... he has no PPC... or at least no PPC programming experience...). And I
also do not blame the way he codes for it...
