Technically speaking .......
..... if u use a raw disk writing means, u can store upto about 128 meg on a zip cartridge or disk. (done and done) .... use as an example a recently bought 25g IBM hard drive. In its` raw state u can store about 27+ gig - but once a "file allocation table" or a dos structure (of any kind) has been "formatted" to the drive I think it now stands @ 21.x gig.
As MOST users do format their drives, it is easy to understand why people sometimes get upset/confuzed.
ALL computer storage structures use 1024 for their K notifier, don`t get caught up with the 1000 bytes argument. M is meg @ 1024 x 1024, 1000 x 1000 doesn`t enter the "marketing" theory.
EXAMPLE : Think of the storage area as a blank sheet of white paper. It`s measurements are 1024 cm x 1024 cm which gives u and area of 1048576. Now, if u draw a single line 1 cm x 1024 cm on this sheet, the white area has now been reduced by 1024. Continuing to draw lines, lets say 16, to create a table for ease of storing your written records, thats 16 x 1024 (16384). After your table drawing - the white surface showing on your paper has reduced to 1048576 - 16384 = 1032192, which is 1008 x 1024.... now u`re upset, coz I said u could store 1024 x 1024 cm of information on the paper.
