The majority of the CD contents are contained in the AACD drawer, split into a
number of sub drawers
The Amiga Active selection of websites has been carefully chosen to complement
the content of the magazine. If there's a certain product reviewed in Amiga Active's
pages, chances are any information we could find on the web relating to that product
has been included in our extensive websites section.
This section also contains recent postings to many Amiga-related mailing lists.
These are Internet discussion groups each one covering a particular topic. We have
mailing lists covering particular applications, individual programming languages and
the general chatter about the magazine from our own mailing list.
We've also included plenty of Amiga specific and general interest sites.
You can save yourself a small fortune in phone bills by browsing the local
copies of all your favourite websites, straight from the Amiga Active CD!
Here are a few highlights of this Amiga Active CD. This is only to get you started,
the whole CD is packed with useful and entertaining material. These highlights
contain a few pointers, but half the fun is in exploring the CD yourself.
Using the CD
As far as possible, software has been set up to run from the CD, but there are some things
you need to do first. Most of this is taken care of when you click on the Welcome
icon. This sets up any assigns that are needed by programs on the CD.
Warning!
If you do not do
this, some programs with fail with a "Please insert volume
<whatever>XYZ" requester. Worse, others may
simply fail to work or even crash. You have been warned!
You can quickly jump to any section of the Amiga Active CD using the buttons on
the left of the screen. The large AA button in the top left corner will always
return you to the Welcome page.
The first time you run the Welcome script, it will also copy a couple of
small files to your hard drive, if they are not already present, it will
not overwrite or delete anything. These files are essential to the
operation of some aspects of the CD, and also mean you can use software
from the CD after you have copied it to your hard drive. These files will
only be written once, and will not interfere with any other software you have,
if you want to know exactly what the script does, here is a
commented version.
The SearchCD icon lets you search for any file, either on the Amiga
Active CD, the Aminet CDs or the main Aminet Index. You can run this from
any of these pages or from its icon on the Workbench. You may also search
the current CD simply by typing the search item into the string gadget at
the top of the browser window.
You can change your CD settings at any time, allowing you to use
whichever program you prefer to view graphics, play mods or deal with
many other types of file.
These pages make extensive use of AWeb's ability to run programs from the CD via clickable links.
