the best bet - as all browers will otherwise treat things different, is to
use tables.
create a 2x2 table as such

| in here | here |
| | |
|------------------|---------------|
| other image | |
| here | more text |
| | |

HTML, being just a mark-up language with hotlinks etc wasnt the best idea
for when the Web really took off. DTP-style layout extensions have since
been added.... but your mileage really will vary. by using tables you
can control the position of each element in a more rigid fashion.
