This happened to my P.C last month, It worked fine for
ages and then just whend dojjy. Turns out my
Oh-so-expensive 128mb sdram just corrupted, don't know
how (mabee a big bit if static electricity or a big
cosmic ray just happened to pass through it!).
Try puting the simm in plase of your chipram simm see
if it works as chipram first (the ram should just work
to the capacity of chipram you need to make 2mb)

If not, just like me you have one expensive bit of
teckno crap to hold onto and wish that it worked!
