The whole concept of the AmigaDE not to provide a renovation or upgrade to
the classic Amiga as such. It is more the revival of the original spirit of
accessibility and innovation embodied in the early machines. As
uncomfortable as it is for some people, the "new" Amiga will ultimately be a
software entity and no longer hardware dependant. I for one welcome this
move as it truly is a positive step into the inevitable future of computing.
The fact is that the Amiga One should be able to provide a gentle stepping
stone, from the old to the new technology without alienating too many of us
dyed-in-the-wool Amigans. The classic Amiga will still represent
accessible, productive and fun computing for a long time to come ..... but
it is not the future and must eventually become less and less productive, if
only by virtue of the sheer cost and non-availability of hard and software.
Sad but true.
This does not mean that we are left in the cold, far from it, it is as
though the wheel has turned full circle and a window of opportunity has
again presented itself for the innovators and mavericks to again make their
mark
Believe it or not, us classic dinosaurs carry potential value to the new
AmigaDE, but I guess it will only be when many can actually see what the new
platform is capable of, before some of the more creative among us decide to
make the step and start to contribute. I have seen Elate in action and I
have absolutely no doubt as to the wisdom of Fleecy and Bill's investment.
This is perhaps a very good time to start to learning Java.

If you call them, they will come.
