I wonder why mine works so well on my PC if your experience is so
bad. But of course it's an IDE I'm using. I never got the (Amiga)
GVP scsi card to work properly and sent it back for a refund - "not
able to do the job I bought it for". To my surprise, I got the
refund. My Oktagon 2008 works faultlessly.

Yes...well I've considered using CD for backups and may do so. At
present I'm using a 2nd-hand external Viper tape drive (scsi) which
is working well, but it won't be reliable for ever and I'm thinking
about alternatives.
