Probably not enough :(
I think the cost of a ROM or y EPROMs would not be too much. It would be
worth it as far as I am concerned.

That's why the floppy as a boot medium died a long time ago.

It just shows how bad PCs are then and how people have become accustomed to
lengthy boot times. You would not accept the same for any other electrical
appliance - and that includes those that do run software.

No, I think people have just become too accepting of slow boot ups. The
software that is needed to run the system should be available very quickly.
Applications can be loaded as and when you need tham but the software
laoded at startup should be on ROM, Eprom, FlashROM or some similar device.

I have used HappyEnv for years and it is very good for shortenning the boot
time. I also tend not to have too much in my WBStartup drawer too -
currently only 4 tools.

Removing DOpus would help a lot but then I need the functionality. If only
H&P had put the OS and the bulk of Magellan on ROM I'd be very happy.

I'll agree with that, I only have 4 :o)
And the same about the S-S too.

Its the time taken before this stuff even starts that gets me. Resets seem
to add about 20 seconds or so before anything even starts, so I avoid them
if at all possible.

Regards,

Bill.
