I've had 5 PSU fans an 3 CPU fans dying due to them being sleaveless and
being switched off. keep them running warm and they dont seize. a dead fan
is bad bad news for the PSU and for the CPU....and for gfx cards and HDs
in the current PC world.

its not for me to argue the usefulness of old machines...especially on an
Amiga list! ;-) I've had my A1200 for c.10 years now and its more useful
now than it was the day i bought it.

many many people use tools which spin-down their HDs if idle for more than
20 minutes. I'm not a fan of those tools either.
lets face it, all of the Webs servers - and theres more than a million of
them out there run 24/7 . as decent networks take off in the home (eg
cable-modem and upwards) you'll want to keep your home machine on 24/7 so
you can access it from work/uni/abroad
