I can sortof vouch for what Alan is saying. Because in my machine here at work,
I usually have it on 24/7. However one day I decided to switch it off before
going home and I came in the next day to find that the Hard-Disk wouldn't spin
up again. This is a 1 year old thing that couldn't handle a power off without
seizing up! I'm sure if I had kept the damn thing going non-stop it'd still be
working today ..
So power offs can do damage IMHO, especially after long usage.
