This "pre 1996" thingy appeared at the start of the thread and I can't
believe anyone else didn't jump on it.
The Amiga was at it's height around 1993/4, well before this magical 1996,
with some exceptional software, be it games (including the vast majority of
the classics) or otherwise. Just because a program is a few years old, that
does not make it OK to pirate them.
If the copyright owners have since given their permission for sites such as
B2R to make them available, so be it, but just because some are available
does not mean all should be made so.
There seem to be plenty of new(ish) users of Amigas who may not have seen
been around for the initial release of some of the classics, but it is quite
easy to find many of these from known distributers. Not only that, but they
are cheap!
I personally think AA should do a feasability study of presenting
"classics", one per feature - perhaps a review of the game and how it was
received - on a monthly basis with links to shops with physical stocks of
these. I appreciate these shops will not have many copies, but I don't
think there would be that many sales, and any sales would make it worth
while.
Even if not many units are consequently sold, I would still enjoy
reminiscing.
I suppose it could always be done with the co-operation of the Amiga Games
Database too, with AA complimenting it's reviews with additional
thoughts/views/comments.
Just a thought.
