Subject: | me & my scsi harddisk [more info] -please help. |
Hi
1. i know how to set scsi things up. :)
2. yes the power cable is plugged in. :)
3. i dont have any details to hand on drive model/maker - i will get
them if the details below dont help any further.
what happened was this - i changed the identifier tags to use linux -
following the aa article [yes i accept that all problems are my
responsibility and mine alone :)]
but i forgot to turn off auto-mount and this prevented the system
booting at all when the scsi drive was installed.
i tried to insert the power cable [should have done data cable - that
might have avoided problem] , after the computer booted up. computer
died - luckily though apart from the hd everything apart from drive
is working.
what i was wondering is have i killed the drive, the scsi controller
on my blizzppc1200 or both - the blizzppc works but i am scared the
scsi controller was damaged.
what i need to know is - is there a way to test which is damaged
without buying another, known to be working, scsi device? would be a
big waste if the controller is dead. - figured that there might be
something that tells me there is a working [real, not the pretend one
thats really ide] scsi interface on my system.
what happens normally if its just the device thats dead? should it
know its there but report broken or is it invisible
