Subject:Zip drive query.

Hello

How do I get an IDE Zip drive to read Zip disks I formatted on a SCSI Zip
drive using the Blizzard 1230scsi.device.

I would have thought all I would need to do is use the old mountfiles and
change the device name and unit number. So instead of using 1230scsi.device
and unit 5 I would use either atapi.device or scsi.device and unit 3.

However although I can format new Zip disks on the IDE drive I cannot read
any that were formatted on th SCSI drive. The filesystem used is exactly
tha same in both cases, in fact I have mountlists for both FFS and PFS.
Both work on their respective systems but will not read disks created by
the other (well the IDE won't read the SCSI ones - not tried the other way
round).

What is it about the IDE device that will not allow me to read Zip disks
created on a SCSI drive. I never had this problem when changing from a
squirel unit to the Blizzard SCSI unit all I did was change the device
name.

Is there a way to read my old disks or do I have to fit a squireel and my
external SCSI Zip drive to this Amiga and copy the disks onto ones
formatted with the IDE Zip drive. It seems a long winded way to do things
but the IDE and SCSI Zip drives seem incompatible.

Before anyone suggests using an RDB its too late as all my old Zip disks
were formatted using a mountfile.

Regards,

Bill.
