If they *can not* be promoted to run on the Graphics card, yes you will need
a FF/SD (i.e hardware banging stuff like T-Zero will only run on AGA)

Nope, you will need the SD/FF to get that.
btw, how comes the mediator board shows up in the early startup? I didnt
think the A1200 would recognise the board? The Ateo system needed a patch
to be run so that the Expansion was found - The Mediator is detected on
startup!?!? (I guess its to do with the Chips on the board?)
