I pay 12 per year for .com domain, from gyron.net (http://www.gyron.net).

They do free web forwarding and e-mail forwarding, so your friend can use
his exuisting BT INternet service.

I've not had any problems with their service, and the support is good.
If your friend wants a .co.uk domain instead, it is 12 for two years.
There are no other charges.

Gaz.
