Thanks again to all. Interesting discussion, much of
it above my simple abilities.
There was an original reason for the images being in
.png rather than .gif but I haven't the faintest idea
what is was now and only a few Mac users have
complained. Eventually I'll change them :) - the
images that is.
Originally all the pages were .html but most of my
regular visitors download the pages to a PDA,
including some quite ancient Psion variants that
truncate the file names to 3 letter extensions, thus
breaking the links. In order to stop the complaints,
I changed every thing to .htm For the same reason,
I'm steering clear of large images and javascript.
