Make sure a graphics driver has been assigned in the Kernel - I use...
amiboot-5.6 -d -k linux -r root.bin root=/dev/sda1 video=amifb:pal-lace
The video= part is REQUIRED - the Kernel won't boot into AGA otherwise...
(in my case).
