Right. As a beer invoked haze is clouding my judgement, I'll go through the
whole thing!
AOL disks pop regularly through your letterbox enabling you to install the
software on your PC. (No disk? I'll send you an AOL 6 one) If you have a
MAC, you
have to ring them to get a MAC disk. If you have an Amiga, forget it!
If you only want AIM (Aol Instant Messenger) you can download it from their
website.

It's a free thing! They don't charge for usage but you'll need a PC to
install it onto.
You'll also need to have an ISP to get you online before you start AIM.
If you've got a PC then install AOL and use their un-metered access option.
You'll get instant messenger as part of the software and you can stay online
with no BT charges!
If you must talk to people 'cross platform' then tell them to download ICQ.
I see that you have it, get them to get it too! It's free and it's now owned
by.....
AOL! Mirabilis sold to AOL because (I imagine) AOL felt that their AIM
program was threatened by it!
Basically, if you have a PC, get an AOL account.
If not, get your friends to get ICQ.
