Subject:History behind Amiga 1000 serial numbers ?

Hi,

Anyone have an idea (or know) how to interpret the serial number of the Amiga
1000's ?

The manual says something about that the four last digits of the serial number
tells which month and year the system was assembled.

I have asked Carl Sassenrath and R.J. Mical about this, and they didn't know for
sure. Carl's idea was that the number was encoded in some way, or an index into
a table, and R.J knew there is one who would know, but that guy is hard to find.

Some of the serial numbers of my system:
system unit's XM1195979
keyboard MT0011068 (maybe replaced, in condition as new at least)
monitor 1080 16895643 (February 1986)

The system was originally sold somewhere in the US (110V system).

Other system unit serial numbers I have collected:
XM 1102504
XM 1150834

This broke my initial guess about how to interpret the number, which resulted
in that my system was built in November 1984 (1979 + 59 months).

Anyone have another idea, or further serial numbers to add to the list ?

I have made a page about my A1000 system, and it's located at

Follow the path -> Computing -> Amiga -> Amiga 1000 to get there.
