I hate it when people say...
"If you do one,
then you'd have to do them all. " "p5 were in a bad enough financial
situation without having to fork out 600 quid each time a fan failed."
Lets say you are p6, you make 2000 cards your first run of a new product,
Halfway into the warranty, a card arrives for repair with a bad fan,
and burnt chips etc. Your man goes to the warehouse (garage? 8' } ),
gets card # 2000, mails it off to what will be a happy, and probaably repeat
customer, who will influence others to consider your products - which do
include
service, by the way. Then batch e-mail your customers to watch for fan
problems.
Then you file #2000 away, and don't process your "loss" until the other
1998 or so
cards are all sold, by which time your next batch will be almost out the
door, and your man
goes and gets card # 4000, and fills the vacancy left by the failure of #
2000.
As far as your business is concerned, those so called "losses" just haven't
sold yet.
p6 isn;t exactly suffering yet. This process can go on and on...
( This is just an example. Adjust the numbers as needed, for real world
failure rates...)
...but sadly this is not often the case, and hence the horror stories we've
all read .
On large purchases, I advise anyone purchasing from a dealer you can't
visit, and don't know, is call them, have them open your purchase and give
you the ID# on the product. and
have them write it in the back of the manual. Then pay the extra for
overnight or
International Express shipping. This helps eliminte those trying to sell
vapour! And if
they think thats too much trouble to go through to get your sale, just
imagine the same
person being asked for a new repacement accelerator or graphics card! And
shop elsewhwere.
...looking forward to AmigaOne, and reputable dealers like Eyetech!
