Maplins stock a range of motherboards and as I'm interested in upgrading my
EZ/PC to an Athlon I had a look in there a while back. I'm pretty sure that
'Socket A' boards can use at least two different CPU's.
Best place to get one? Maplins or Computer Exchange.
You may also want to start worrying about memory! My EZ/PC has a bus speed
of 100Mhz so the Dimm chips have to be the same speed. My step sons PC has a
bus speed of 66Mhz and those slower Dimms are harder to find. PC World don't
stock them I had to get a second hand one from Computer Exchange. If you can
use Simms, no probs (I think).
I've just checked the Maplin site,
http://www.maplin.co.uk
and they say an Athlon or a Duron will fit a 'Socket A' but they've
discontinued the Athlon in favour of the new Thunderbird version. The Duron
is £79.99.
Hope this helps.
