Subject:A question about Linux

Hello,

Just a quick question about installing the 68k version of Linux provided on AACD18 :

I wasn't able to install the kernal from the CD as, unlike other people, I didn't get the
error 'Not a Debian CD' but instead Linux simply didn't find my CD-Rom drive at all.
I suspect that Linux either doesn't recognise Surf Squirrels as a valid place for a CD drive
to be or just can't handle SCSI CD-Rom drives. Anyway, I copied the 'potato' directory
from the Linux session of the CD over to the root of one of my FFS formatted partitions
and when I ran the Linux install program I chose that partition (dev/hda2) as the location
of the archives. The kernal installed without problems onto two partitions
(dev/hda9 & dev/hda10) on my hard drive after several aborted attempts
and I can now boot into Linux whenever I feel like it.

However I am somewhat stumped when it comes to installing the packages. As the 'potato'
directory is in the root of an FFS partition, is it possible to get Linux to recognise that
partition like it did in the initial install process as a source of packages and if so, how?

Donald
