That's a disadvantage. If you wanted to keep the settings permanently,
you'd save them. What happens when you're trying different Workbench
screenmodes to see what your monitor can handle?

If you want to keep ENV: on HD, take a look at HDEnv. This synchronises
ENV: with ENVARC: at bootup, by only copying or deleting changed files.
