Subject: | Cyber SCSI |
Hello Folks,
I've done it! Got my CD-Writer and CD-ROM running off the CyberStorms
UW SCSI controller, at last :))
Thanks to all those who offered advice, and especially to Neil for his help
and "mini tutorial" in AA.
I had to crimp another 68pin connector onto my cable, as the unusual
layout of the CyberStorm in a Tower means that most "standard" cables
won't reach from the board to the first device. The crimping went
suprisingly easily, especially as I was using a connector robbed from
another cable! Having a full-sized engineers vice helps :)
Having connected the SCSI2 devices using two 68>50 way adaptors,
the cable now easily reaches the controllers connector socket and the
UW hard drive, the free end being terminated with an active terminator
block. I set both units to unterminated, as they are now in the middle
of the SCSI chain.
All that remained was to change the DOSdrivers for CD0: and CD2: to
reflect the change to cybppc.device, and to enable units 3 & 5 in the
Cyberstorms boot menu, and away it all went, first go! :)
One notable improvement is that I can now play Video CDs, and I'm
hoping MakeCD will show some improvements as well.
Final question:
Can I connect an external (unterminated) device, such as a scanner, to
a middle-of-the-chain spare connector, once I figure a way to get it
to the back of the case?
